September 2010

The month of September has been an extreme emotional roller coaster ride. I have felt the lows, and the highs, but when it comes down to it, I have learned some serious life lessons, and realized how much my family and friends mean to me. When I first moved into my apartment, I simply felt alone. No one around that knew me personally... yet... and no one I could confide in. I believe I did miss my family and friends, but was just in denial about it. I have quickly come to realize that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. I am still learning and growing as is everyone else around me. Life is what you make of it, so make is special... make it YOU! I am slowly making my life ME again. I am starting to really focus on my songs, my dance, and the scenes I have to memorize. I am also doing a really amazing project on the history of jazz dance. I am incredibly excited to create my assignment, which I wont go into detail about now, but when it is finished, I will post pictures, and you will love it!

When school first started I was afraid of what I was in for. The nerves in Masters Class (Song Performance) took me completely off guard. To top things off, my throat was extremely sore and I hadn't fully memorized the words. After taking another week to perfect it, I realized it was a poor song choice on my part, but I guess I just picked something to get the first one out of the way. Not a big deal because my next song is a song that is now close to my heart. I cried the first time I really listened to it. I'm slightly nervous to expose this piece of myself, but excited at the same time because it is perfect for my voice. I am going to try and record this song eventually and post it for everyone to enjoy. I can't wait for that!

Dance has been amazing thus far. We have four dance classes this semester: Ballet, Jazz, Modern, & Dance Production. I did get placed into the basic levels of each style of dance, but I am working to move up in levels. There are four levels of dance for Ballet and Jazz, but for Modern there are only two. This week I will be in the second level of Modern, which I am super excited for because I absolutely love modern dance movement! I am going to ask my profs to move up to the next levels of ballet and jazz this week as well because I feel I can handle the next step up. I am loving dance production because we will doing a tap number, even though we don't have a tap class until next semester. I picked up the tap very quickly. My 5 years of childhood tap classes must have something to do with that! I absolutely love tap. Right now we don't have an actual tap routine for our performance, but I am hoping to be one of the tappers in it, as not everyone will be.

Since starting school I have been to a few house parties, and had great times with some lovely people. Friday night we baked pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and I couldn't help but devour at least 10 of them! They were fantastic! Thank you to Emma for allowing me to help make and help eat those amazing cookies. That was a really great night. Cydney, Emily, Emma and I just sat around eating and talking. Saturday night, however, Cydney, Emily and I decided to take Emma's tickets to the comedy show being held at the SLC Pub. There, we met up with my roommate Davin, and another friend from our program. The comics were great, Doug Funk being the best of them, and I laughed til my cheeks hurt. "Flick my testicles with a playing card," this being on of my favorite lines of the night. After comedy night, Cydney and I headed off to a local bar to dance. When we got there there was nothing going on, but after about an hour, we had met a guy and they started playing danceable music. We danced for about 5 songs and then left the bar to go to a random house party with the guy we had just met. We weren't drinking that night, but we had good times chilling with him and his friends. One of the girls was actually a graduate of our program. The best part of the night was my discovery of Family Guy's performance of "Bob's the Word". It is absolutely hilarious. All in all, the night was incredible. Good times were had by all, and I definitely cannot wait to do something again soon!

In the next few weeks I will be performing two songs in masters class, doing a few assignments for other classes, learning a scene from a really good play, and starting to build my jazz dance project. BIG THANK YOU to Emily for the suggestions! I'll be going back to the County for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see my family and friends. I will attempt to blog as often as I can, but I really cannot guarantee anything as I am extremely busy with school. I will do my best though! ♥
